Nancy C. Floyd
Founder and Managing Director
Nancy is Founder and Managing Director of Nth Power.
Nancy has led Nth Power’s investments in Silicon Energy (Nasdaq: ITRI), Northern Power (Nasdaq: DESC), Smartsynch, Serveron, SpectraSensors and Propel Biofuels. In addition to these Boards, Nancy sits on the boards of ACORE (American Council on Renewable Energy) and the Center for Resource Solutions. She has been an advisor to the National Renewable Energy Lab, was a board member of Sustainable Asset Management in Zurich, Switzerland and is an active member of E2. She also helped organize the Northwest Business Leaders for Clean Energy campaign and was also appointed by Governor Ted Kulongoski to serve on the Oregon Economic and Community Development Commission.
Prior to founding Nth Power, Nancy built, managed and negotiated the sale of two high-growth energy and telecommunications companies. In 1982, she founded NFC Energy Corporation, one of the country's first wind development firms utilizing advanced technology developed by NASA and Sandia Labs. She developed over $30 million in projects and sold the company, generating a 25-fold return on the original capital invested in three years. In 1985, she helped found PacTel Spectrum Services, a network management company for private voice and data networks and a subsidiary of Pacific Telesis. Nancy was responsible for the nationwide launch of Spectrum Services, which was ultimately sold to IBM in 1987.
In 1977-1980, Nancy worked for the Chairman of the Vermont Public Utilities Commission where she worked on energy and telecommunications issues as well as served as the Commission’s chief legislative liaison. She sat on the New England Regional Facility Siting Council and founded one of the first non-profit companies in the U.S. to fund home energy audits.
Nancy holds a masters degree in political science from Rutgers University (1977), where she was an Eagleton Fellow. She received a bachelor's degree in political science from Franklin and Marshall College (1976), where she currently serves as a Trustee.
Tim Woodward
Managing Director
Tim Woodward joined Nth Power in 1998 as a Managing Director.
Tim has led investments in companies involved in renewable energy, demand side management, advanced metering and outsourced utility customer management. He was the lead investment partner for the firm’s successful investments in Evergreen Solar (ESLR), Comverge (COMV) and Proton Energy Systems (DESC). Tim currently serves on the boards of AllConnect, Imara, Soliant Energy, Tioga Energy and OptoElectronix, and is a board observer for Rive Technology.
Prior to joining Nth Power, Tim spent eight years managing venture capital investments for Liberty Environmental Partners, a firm that focused on energy, industrial and environmental technologies. During that time, he served as full-time Chairman of Monitoring Technology Corporation, a company that provides on-line condition monitoring of power and industrial equipment.
Prior to entering the venture capital business, Tim was involved in the launch of First Source, a company providing industrial solvent recycling services. He also spent more than six years in international marketing for an industrial filtration equipment manufacturer.
Tim received his MBA with honors from The Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA where he focused on entrepreneurial studies and strategic planning. He received his BS in Resource Economics from UC Berkeley in 1982.
Bryant J. Tong
Managing Director
Bryant Tong joined Nth Power in 2001 as a Managing Director.
Bryant has led Nth Power’s investments in Accelergy Corporation, NanoGram Corporation, Microposite, Inc. and Arxx Corporation, and he serves on the board of each of these companies.
Previously, Bryant was founder, President and CEO of Pacific Venture Capital, LLC (PVC), the venture capital arm of the PG&E Corporation. At PVC, Bryant led investments in the energy and telecommunications sectors.
Prior to joining PVC, Bryant co-founded ReSourcePhoenix, Inc. (RPC) and successfully took the company public. RPC pioneered the use of the Internet to help businesses outsource their IT and accounting operations. As President and COO, he planned business strategy, sales and marketing and was responsible for all day-to-day operations.
Previous to ReSourcePhoenix, Bryant also served as part of the senior management group at Phoenix American, Inc. While at Phoenix American, Bryant worked with Phoenix Growth Capital (PGC). PGC invested in over 200 venture capital-backed companies by providing venture lease financing. PGC was one of the most profitable divisions within Phoenix American.
A native of San Francisco, California, Bryant received his Bachelor of Science in business administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Bryant is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and also serves as a member of several industry advisory boards including the Energy Venture Fair and the Golden Capital Network. Bryant founded and chairs the China-U.S. Energy Efficiency Alliance. Bryant also serves on the University of San Francisco Entrepreneurship Program Advisory Board.
Matt Jones
Partner
Matt Jones joined Nth Power in 2000. His main focus at Nth Power is on deal origination, due diligence and deal structuring. He has been the lead principal on 10 investments in the areas of materials and nanotechnology, distributed generation and storage and biofuels. Mr. Jones serves on the board of XeroCoat, and is an observer on the board of Superprotonic.
Prior to joining Nth Power, Mr. Jones was a consultant for Accenture in the utility practice group. He advised clients on market restructuring, cost reduction, risk management and information technology initiatives. He helped create a new organization within an investor owned utility for the purpose of interacting with the deregulated energy market.
Mr. Jones received a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Davis and an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. He was a Keller Scholar at Fuqua and received the V. Glen Winslow Award as the most outstanding graduating man at UC Davis.
Rodrigo Prudencio
Partner
Rodrigo Prudencio is a Partner with Nth Power and is involved in all aspects of the firm’s operations including investments, investor relations, and portfolio management. Rodrigo sits on the board of Synapsense, and is an observer of the boards of Terrapass and Imara.
Earlier in his career, Rodrigo worked for the Department of State where he focused on a variety of global environmental negotiations, including preparations for the Kyoto round of the Climate Change Convention. Rodrigo was also Director of the international trade program at the National Wildlife Federation where he led NWF’s environmental advocacy to reform the rules of international trade.
Rodrigo received his MBA from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley where he served as president of his class and concentrated on energy markets including outside research at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. His bachelor’s degree in international relations was earned from Middlebury College in Vermont.
Elaine Erickson
Chief Financial Officer
Elaine Erickson joined Nth Power as their Chief Financial Officer in 2008. Prior to joining Nth she was CFO at APV Technology Partners, a Venture Capital firm and subsequently provided financial consulting services to other Venture Capital firms. Earlier in her career, Elaine was in public accounting and was a Tax Partner at Arthur Andersen LLP in San Jose.
Elaine holds an MBA from Santa Clara University and an International Relations degree from the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada. She is a Certified Public Accountant.
Brian Walsh
Sr. Associate
Brian Walsh joined Nth Power in 2007 and is involved in deal origination and structuring, due diligence and supporting the Partners with portfolio companies. He examines a variety of investment areas including better buildings, oil and gas, waste-to-energy, advanced materials, and advanced transportation. He has assisted in the investment of several portfolio companies and currently sits as an observer on the board of Rive Technology.
Prior to his role at Nth Power, Brian worked with several East Coast venture firms as a consultant providing them with a more comprehensive overview of the Cleantech space and assisting on the evaluation of energy-related deals. Brian also worked with many MIT and Harvard startups in the energy efficiency, solar, water and materials spaces. Brian was also involved with the MIT Entrepreneurship Center and several venture capital firms in creating the New England Energy Innovation Collaborative to foster energy-related innovation, entrepreneurship and economic growth on the East Coast.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Walsh served as Technical Director at Breakthrough Technologies Institute, an environmental technology think tank in Washington DC, and as a Director at the US Fuel Cell Council, the premier industry association for the emerging hydrogen and fuel cell industries. During this time, Brian worked closely with leading startups, government agencies and large industry participants on commercializing hydrogen and fuel cell-related technologies.
Mr. Walsh has an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management, where he led the MIT Venture Capital / Private Equity Club, the MIT Sloan Energy & Environment Club and served as Managing Director of the 2007 MIT Energy Conference. Walsh received his Bachelors of Science in Physics from Tufts University.
Matthew Price
Sr. Associate
Matt Price joined Nth Power in 2007 where his primary focus is on deal origination, due diligence, and deal structuring. Matt looks at a broad range of investment areas including materials and nanotechnology, fuel cells, batteries, biofuels, advanced lighting, and smart grid technologies. Mr. Price sits on the board of OptoElectronix and is an observer on the board of Propel Biofuels.
Prior to joining Nth Power, Matt was a materials engineer and business development manager for Franklin Fuel Cells. During this time Matt built and ran the company’s fuel cell testing capabilities and helped the company raise over $4.5 million in venture funding and government grants.
Matt received his MBA from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley, with a focus on energy markets. During his graduate studies Matt co-founded the Berkeley Energy Resource Collaborative (BERC) and consulted for several alternative energy companies. Matt also worked for Bloom Energy as a product manager while receiving his graduate degree. Matt received his BS in materials science and engineering from Northwestern University and earned an honors degree for his research on solid oxide fuel cells.
